Chamikara Liyanage 38th Lorne Cancer Conference 2026

Chamikara Liyanage

Dr Chamikara Liyanage is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI). Chamikara completed his honors degree at the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka, 2016), introducing an epigenetic biomarker panel for the early diagnosis of oral/oropharyngeal cancer. Chamikara completed his PhD at the Translational Research Institute, Queensland University of Technology (Brisbane, 2024). During his PhD, he investigated proteomic alterations driving hormone-therapy resistance in prostate cancer, which led to the discovery of a novel micropeptide with an anti-metastatic role. His current research at the Cancer Single-Cell Genomics Laboratory (CSCG)-ONJCRI utilizes cutting-edge single-cell and spatial transcriptomic applications to profile the epithelial-immune-stromal cell network in the breast tumor microenvironment. He also employs in vivo mouse models to test novel drug candidates with the potential to improve the metastasis-free survival of patients with breast cancer.
